A Young Gentleman Drinks Abusively, Gets Inspired To Get Treatment For Alcoholism And Depression, And Improves His Life

Ralph began drinking heavily when he was a freshman in high school. From a positive perspective, although he drank abusively and excessively when he was an adolescent and a young adult, when he got beyond the age of thirty he almost always drank in moderation.

After he finished his education he eventually got a job at a local food processing plant where he applied himself and worked his way up from stock person, to office assistant, to purchasing assistant, to purchasing manager. Unlike his other positions, as the purchasing manager he continually took potential vendors and existing vendors to lunch and to a variety of sporting events.

Although it was not written in concrete, meeting with existing vendors and potential vendors repeatedly involved circumstances in which alcohol was present. Indeed, over the past fourteen months, Ralph had begun to noticeably increase his work related and his social drinking. This has led to quite a predicament. To be exact, the more successful he became as a purchasing agent, the more heavily he began to drink.

Indeed, it did not take very long before Ralph's hazardous and irresponsible drinking started to negatively affect his relationships, his work efficiency, his health, the money in his savings account, and his mental health. After many weeks of excessive drinking, Ralph, if truth be told, started to be anxious about his unhealthy and excessive drinking and questioned whether his alcohol related problems were alcoholism signs. To make things worse, his increasing bouts of depression also made him wonder whether he was becoming addicted to alcohol. In short, Ralph obviously needed to learn more about the facts about alcohol abuse and the signs of alcoholism.

So Ralph used his problem solving ability, called his physician, and scheduled an appointment for a physical exam. The next week when he saw his doctor, Ralph unfortunately was told that he was an alcoholic. His physician informed Ralph that he needed to get alcohol detox and alcohol rehab for his alcohol dependency and that he also needed to get a medical evaluation regarding his depression. In a word, Ralph needed treatment for his alcoholism and depression.

His doctor recommended to Ralph that he request a 30 day leave of absence from work and get admitted into a quality in-patient alcohol rehabilitation clinic where his depression could also be evaluated and treated. This is precisely what Ralph did. Fortunately after his treatment for depression and for alcoholism, he felt like a new person. Indeed, now that he was in recovery he rarely got depressed and he now understood how to more successfully and productively manage his health, his relationships, his finances, and his job.

To no one's amazement, the most difficult test Ralph met was at the office. Simply put, he still took his existing vendors and potential vendors to various sporting events and to lunch, but after his alcohol rehabilitation he was able to stay away from drinking while entertaining his clients.

It may be noted that Ralph also discovered that none of his potential vendors or his existing vendors thought any less of him because of his alcohol-free lifestyle. Instead, he learned that his existing vendors and potential vendors respected him for maintaining his convictions.

After Ralph went through alcohol treatment he learned that if he refrained from drinking, all of the other meaningful parts of his life would be fortified. Every once-in-a-while, it can be pointed out, Ralph missed drinking, but the better work performance, health, finances, and the better relationships he experienced more than offset his craving for alcohol.
