A Young Female Quits Drinking, Suffers From Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms, And Makes Up Her Mind To Get Alcohol Therapy

Kayla is a thirty-year-old outside sales representative who has been drinking in an excessive and irresponsible manner since her boyfriend and she severed their relationship. In point of fact, for the past three months she has been drinking nearly a bottle of wine every night, and on the weekends she also has been drinking a number bottles of beer throughout the day. In a word, Kayla has been drinking so excessively and hazardously that it's a wonder that she hasn't suffered from alcohol withdrawals when she tried to stop drinking.

After feeling discouraged because she was starting to ignore her health, Kayla finally told herself that she's had enough, that it's time to stop the self pity party, that it's time to stop the hazardous and irresponsible drinking, and time to move on with her life. So the following Saturday morning at 8:00 AM, she made up her mind to quit drinking completely and suddenly without planning or preparation.

When she called her best buddy and told her that she had stopped drinking and that after a couple of hours she suddenly began having flu-like symptoms, Beth, her best buddy, told Kayla to call her physician and go over what was transpiring.

Her doctor informed her that she may be going through alcohol withdrawal symptoms and that she should have a friend or family member take her to the emergency room as soon as possible. It appears that her physician had called ahead and informed the emergency room staff to expect Kayla because when she got to the hospital, she was met by two ER employees who promptly told her to sit down in the wheelchair they had with them.

A doctor gave her some medications to diminish her flu-like symptoms and also administered some medications to help get rid of the alcohol that was still in her body. After a few hours, Kayla was transferred from the emergency room and transported to the recovery room.

After she was in recovery for about three hours, Doctor Fox, an alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency specialist, came to talk to her. He took his time and explained in laymen's language that Kayla had experienced alcohol withdrawal symptoms when she stopped drinking because she had become an alcoholic.

He then explained that with heavy drinking on an everyday basis, the drinker's brain over time gets acclimated to the alcohol in order to process things in a "normal" way. When the person then suddenly abstains from ingesting alcohol, it can be stressed, the brain takes action by producing alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Moreover, her physician also explained in a clear fashion the various alcoholism symptoms that a person who is alcohol dependent almost always goes through as the disease gets progressively worse as time goes by.

Fortunately for Kayla, it was determined that she was in the earliest stage of alcoholism and, as a result, she got a good diagnosis for a complete recovery if she will get the alcohol addiction treatment she needs.

Kayla told the physician that she will do whatever it takes to get sober and to restore her health and her life. She also mentioned that she has a first-rate hospitalization insurance plan that will almost certainly pay for most of the costs needed for rehabilitation. It was clear to see that Kayla was quite grateful about her positive medical prognosis and felt free from worry knowing that she will be able to get the alcohol rehab she needs so that she can start on the road to recovery.
